Boatyard Assistant

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our growing team at Blackness Marine. Are you an experienced Boat yard operative looking for a new and exciting opportunity in a fast-paced environment?
Are you bright and articulate with good customer facing skills, experience in boat handling both ashore and afloat? Knowledge of general boat maintenance essential. This role involves some weekend and bank holiday working. The post requires working outside all year round, its essential that all applicants are physically fit and capable to manage this.   

The role

• Assisting with launch, recovery and delivery of various types of motor and sail boats   
• Assisting lifting team with haul outs, pressure wash offs
• All applicants require some experience in operation of tractors, forklifts and other lifting plant
• Assisting with general maintencance, anti fouling and polishing work
• You need excellent communication skills

The key requirements for this role are:

• An ability to deliver the highest standards of customer service
• Self-motivated, able to work without supervision
• A practical, resourceful and common sense approach to prioritising
• Enthusiastic and friendly with a flexible and positive ‘can do’ attitude
• You will be required to work outside in all weathers so should be physically fit.
• Full driving license
• Knowledge and awareness of health and safety
• Ability to swim
• RYA Powerboat, slinging and lifting experience will be a strong advantage.

Marine Engineer


An exciting opportunity has arisen for a fully trained outboard engineer technician to join our existing team in our new workshop at Blackness Marine. All applicants must be qualified to a suitable standard with proven experience in marine engineering, ideally with some experience of installation of navigation/electronic equipment and wiring too. You need a passion for boats, this post requires working outside year-round, its essential that all applicants are physically fit and capable to manage this.  

The role

• Diagnosing and repairing faults on a variety of engines and drives
• Ensuring suitable recommendations are made, deficiencies noted
• Installation and repair of electronic and navigational equipment
• Allocating stock to job cards and using stock control software
• Applicants must have a good awareness of health and safety procedures
• 40 hours basic to include some Saturdays April – Sept

The key requirements for this role are:

• Excellent knowledge of boats and marine engineering experience (min 2 years)
• Strong analytical skills for methodical problem solving
• Navigation/electronic equipment installation experience
• Ability to prioritise with good time management
• Must be a team player with ability to work alone
