Seasonal Boatyard Operative (NPORS / Plant Operator)
April–October | River Dart, South Devon
We’re looking for a competent plant operator to join our boatyard team for the busy season ahead. If you’ve got NPORS (or equivalent) and you’re confident on machinery, this is a solid, hands-on role where your skills are genuinely valued.
You’ll be working in a fast-paced marine environment moving high-value boats safely and efficiently — not sitting in a cab all day, but using your judgement and experience, with customer engagement and a great team environment.
The Role
- Operating tractors, hydraulic boat trailers, forklifts, and hoists
- Launching and recovering boats (precision handling essential)
- Moving vessels around the yard and local area
- Wash-down and prep for storage
- Supporting maintenance of plant, pontoons, and yard infrastructure
- Keeping operations running smoothly during busy periods
What You’ll Need
- NPORS, CPCS, or equivalent plant tickets
- Proven experience operating heavy plant safely and confidently
- Good spatial awareness and load control (boats are unforgiving)
- A practical, get-it-done mindset
- Comfortable working around water (training provided if needed)
- Full UK driving licence
- Able to swim 100m
- Reliable, steady, and good under pressure
Bonus (not essential):
- RYA Powerboat Level 2
- Experience towing trailers or working in marine/agri-environments
Why It’s a Good Move
- Varied work — not stuck doing the same lifting all day
- Well-maintained equipment
- Small, capable team — no micromanagement
- Straightforward environment: get the job done properly and go home
- Work outdoors in a top riverside location in the heart of the South Hams
- Opportunity for repeat seasons or longer-term role for the right candidate
- Season: April to October
- Hours: ~40/week (weekend rota)
- Pay: £14–£16 per hour (depending on experience)
- Perks: Free parking, staff discounts, training opportunities
If you’re a solid operator who takes pride in doing things properly, you’ll fit in well here.
